About Chain Price List

We publish what US retail service chains actually charge, as read from the chains' own published pages, with a date and a locations-checked count attached to every number.

Why this site exists

Ask what a haircut costs at a national chain and you will get an answer, but not a sourced one. Aggregator sites publish crowdsourced numbers with no date. AI summaries confidently quote figures that were true some years ago. The chains themselves often publish nothing at all, because pricing is set per franchise rather than nationally.

So the honest answer to "what does this chain charge" is usually a range, built from the prices real locations choose to publish, with a date on it. That is the only thing this site publishes.

How the figures are put together

Every price on this site comes from one of two places, and each page says which:

  1. The chain's own published pages. For brands that price per location, we read the menus on individual location pages and show the low, high and typical price across them, together with how many locations the figure covers.
  2. A dated, attributed editorial source. Used only where no chain in a category publishes prices at all, which currently applies to auto-service chains. These figures are labelled as editorial rather than verified.
  3. Nothing else. We do not crowdsource prices, we do not estimate, and we do not fill a gap with a plausible-looking number.

What we do not do

  1. We do not invent prices for chains that publish none. Where a chain is a genuine dead end, we say so and keep it listed rather than quietly dropping it.
  2. We do not present a single national figure for a chain that prices per franchise. The range and the locations count are the honest answer.
  3. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any chain listed on this site, and we do not take payment to change or feature a price.

How current the data is

Every price carries the date it was last checked. Figures are re-checked on a schedule and updated when they change, but prices at franchised businesses can change between checks with no announcement.

Treat every figure here as "what this location published when we checked", not as a quote. Confirm with the location before you rely on it.
