What a visit is like
How Pep Boys works, chain-wide - the same at this location.
- Oil changes are booked online, by store and vehicle; there is no drive-up lane.
- The oil change package covers up to five quarts of oil, a new oil filter and a free PepCheck vehicle inspection.
- Four oil grades are offered: platinum full synthetic, high-mileage synthetic blend, high-mileage full synthetic and conventional, plus a Shell Rotella diesel service. Pennzoil is the preferred brand.
- Express Check-in lets you print and sign the paperwork ahead of time so you hand over keys instead of queueing.
- Early and late vehicle drop-off is supported: leave keys and paperwork in an envelope in the service-door slot, then call after the store opens to confirm.
Ways to pay less
Pep Boys publishes these chain-wide; confirm they run at this location.
- A coupons and deals page runs dated, limited-time offers on tires, brakes, batteries and services, with several delivered by text.
- A price match guarantee: Pep Boys promises to beat any competitor's current local advertised price on merchandise, tires and service.
- Military and first-responder discounts, applied in store on presentation of ID rather than at online checkout.
Questions
Why can't you show an official price for most of these chains?
Most of them publish none: they gate pricing behind a tool that asks for your vehicle first. Walmart Auto Care is the exception and is priced from its own national menu. For the rest, rather than invent a number, we cite a dated editorial source and label it.
What actually changes the price of an oil change?
Oil grade above all: full synthetic can cost roughly double conventional on the same car. Engine oil capacity and counter-added fees account for most of the rest.
What does the quoted price include?
Oil up to a set number of quarts, a new filter and disposal at most chains, plus a courtesy inspection. Extra quarts, cartridge filters and shop fees sit outside that, which is why the quote and the bill can differ.
Which oil does my car need?
The one in the owner's manual: grade and viscosity are specified by the manufacturer. Using a cheaper grade than specified is a false saving, and paying for a more expensive one than specified buys nothing.
How often do I actually need an oil change?
Follow the manufacturer's interval in the manual or on the car's service reminder. The sticker a shop puts on the windshield is frequently shorter than the manufacturer requires, particularly on engines running full synthetic.
Should I agree to the extras they recommend?
Check each one against the manual's maintenance schedule first. Air filters, cabin filters and wipers are genuinely consumable but rarely due at every oil change, and flushes are worth doing only when the schedule calls for them or a real fault is found.
Why was there a fee added at the counter?
Shop supply and disposal fees are standard practice and are often outside the quoted service price. Asking for the out-the-door total before work starts is the way to avoid the surprise.
Will using a chain instead of a dealer void my warranty?
No. Federal law protects your right to have routine maintenance done where you choose, as long as it is done to the manufacturer's specification. Keep the receipts, because the records are what prove it.
