Questions
Why is a suit so much more than two shirts?
Lined and structured garments are pressed by hand on shaped forms rather than run through a shirt press. The price difference is labour time, not cleaning cost.
What is the cheapest way to clean everyday clothes?
Wash and fold, priced by weight or bag. It costs a fraction of per-garment dry cleaning for anything that does not need pressing.
What is the difference between dry cleaning and laundering a shirt?
A laundered shirt is washed in water and pressed by machine, which is why it is the cheapest item on the menu. Dry cleaning uses solvent instead of water and is for garments that would shrink, lose shape or bleed in a wash.
How long does it take?
Standard turnaround at most chains is a day or two, with same-day service available if the item is dropped off early and paid for as a rush. Anything sent to a specialist takes considerably longer.
Can they get any stain out?
No. Results depend on what caused the stain, how old it is, and whether it has already been through heat. Tell the counter what the stain is at drop-off: that is the single thing most likely to change the outcome.
What cannot be dry cleaned?
Leather, suede and fur go to a specialist rather than through the normal process. Heavily beaded or glued embellishment, some coated and rubberised fabrics, and garments with no care label may be declined or accepted only at the owner's risk.
Do they clean comforters and household items?
Most cleaners do, priced as oversized items rather than per garment, and some handle rugs through a specialist. Expect a longer turnaround than for clothing.
Are the online alteration prices what I will pay?
Treat them as a starting figure. Alterations are quoted after the garment is inspected, because lining, pleats and fabric all change the work involved.
